Heya guys.
Figured it was about time for a worthy music post, so here's a quick rundown of some of the more notable bands I've seen live over the past month or so.

Band: At Cliffs End
Song to Hear:Liars and Buyers (It's All the Same Game)
Final Say:The four guys in this band, most of whom are much younger than I had expected, came out onto the stage, guns ablazing. They delivered a solid Pop Rock sound that matched their electrifying live performance. They were loads of fun to watch, both on stage and on their tour vlog. They're a band that comes highly recommended by me if you have the opportunity to see them live. So much so, that I plan on inviting some friends to see them in early august, and calling it my "birthday party." That's some pretty hardcore love, right there.

Band:Zombie Bazooka Patrol
Song to Hear:Zombie Shake
Final Say:These guys were some spectacle. It's a group of four guys who dress up as zombies and play songs about...Well, being zombies. It's all very light-hearted and fun. It was an incredible relief just to find a band who didn't take themselves too seriously. They've got a unique Folk Pop sound, and they masterfully combine various sounds and genres into songs that are nothing if not true art.

Band: Allison Weiss
Song to Hear: Yer Goin' Down/Terror on the High Seas OR I'm Ready
Final Say:Allison brought her younger brother AJ with her as her bandmate when I saw her at their coffee house performance. The two of them were witty and played of of each other excellently. Allison was quirky and had a huge amount of spunk throughout the show. One thing I did notice, however, is that she has far more energy in her live performances than in her recorded songs, which occasionally seem borderline flat. She's got a wonderful voice paired with enjoyable acoustic guitar lines which result in a highly memorable performance.

I myself believe that this photo is a miracle of modern technology, and the sheer, amazing, weirdness of certain people. So what are we seeing here? If all goes well with Picasa' BlogThis! feature, hopefully we see the truely odd picture of two guys. I find hilarious the sheer expression of him (or her) on the right, plus if you trace the line of sight of him on the left, you see that he is staring at a ring, which, alas, is not on either of their hands. Nevertheless, I have decided that, by a spark of inspiration, this picture shows the great bond between the odd couple, and have aptly decided to caption the picture, simply, We're Engaged!

As a fellow geek, you may wholeheartedly agree with this article. If you are a non-geek (do they really exist?), you might take offense. Regardless… how you feel about the matter is largely irrelevant – the truth is that a geek probably will steal your girlfriend this year (or steal away the girl you may have designs on), and while we hate to be the ones to break it to you, it’s simply a friendly forewarning. Without further ado, here are 12 reasons why a geek will steal your girlfriend this year:

1. Geeks make more money than you.

Claiming that women value money over everything else is not going to fly. Instead, you must consider the more practical angle - when all other things are considered equal, the guy with more money is simply the better option.

That raises two questions - do geeks have more money, and how does a geek match up at everything else? For the former, here’s a thought:

Remember that pimply faced, awkward, AD&D player who everyone made fun of in high school? Chances are he has come up with the concept for the latest gadget the masses have been drooling over ( Steve Jobs with iPhone), a social networking site that has taken the world by storm ( Kevin Rose with Digg) or created the coolest cartoon in history (Trey Parker and Mark Stone with South Park).

The other question? That’s a subject for the rest of this article.

2. Geeks are smarter than you.

They might not have a player’s social skills and graces but they do hold degrees in anything from literature to nuclear physics. And even those without a degree (think Bill Gates) can converse about more then how much they earn, what kind of car they drive and the latest football scores.

Stimulating conversation goes a long way towards winning her heart – and compared to the average guy, a geek has far more to talk about and is undeniably far more interesting.

3. Geeks pay attention.

Men in general cannot multitask. That is why when you are on a date, your eyes glaze over while you stare at woman’s cleavage and all you hear is bla,bla,bla (to be fair you’re probably not missing much, but that’s not the point here).

So how do geeks differ? It is not that geeks do not appreciate breasts (they are men after all) but what’s almost universally common in geeks is the presence of old-fashioned chivalry and plain old good manners. You’d be surprised at how far that can get you with a girl (as long as you don’t roll over and play dead).

Given the choice between breasts and listening to the bla bla of their new lady friend, odds are that the geek will be discreet in his stares and learn to multitask (see #2). Hey, you can’t avoid great cleavage…

4. Geeks remember what matters.

I’m not talking about when Chicago Bulls won the championship for the third time in the row or how many times Jessica Alba was in Maxim magazine. Geeks have super powers – they can remember birthdays and anniversaries and all other little nuances women love so much.

In itself, having a good (nay, excellent) memory is just a regular trait (and can be annoying if you feel the overwhelming urge to correct others), but combined with #5, it is an overwhelming advantage for the geek.

5. Geeks pick out the best gifts.

Not only will geeks remember when it’s her birthday, they will remember what her likes and dislikes (and if she hasn’t told him, see #6 for the kicker). With all this information at their disposal, geeks will also come up with perfect gift. It really does take minimum effort, regardless of what men might think.

And let’s face it: when was the last time you remembered your girlfriend’s birthday in time, let alone found a gift that has made her squeal with delight?

6. Geeks put in the extra effort.

Missed her favorite show? Can’t find that obscure Indian movie her friends have been telling her about? Interested in a new underground band that could be the next big thing? Leave it to the geek to find it for her.

And if they haven’t been together for long, you can trust the geek to ask her the right questions and find out what she wants and doesn’t want - and then give that to her.

You don’t have to obey her every wish - giving her what she truly needs is often the key to a successful relationship, and not only are geeks ahead of the curve in finding out what she needs, but they’re also ahead in terms of putting in the extra yards to ensure that she gets it.

7. Geeks are better lovers.

Before you laugh…actually, go ahead, laugh this one out. I’ll wait.

Once you’re done claiming your superiority, here’s the harsh truth - men are, on average, unsatisfying. Experience doesn’t do much for a guy if all he’s doing is trying to hold it in as long as possible - yea, practice makes perfect but you’re only going to go so far when your limit is 3 minutes.

Notice that I didn’t say geeks were better endowed or lasted longer - but that geeks were better lovers. Compared to an average guy, a geek is going to be better prepared, knows exactly how to please a lady in bed and will actually pay attention to her needs instead of trying to catch the early train back home.

8. Geeks get the best gadgets.

Lets face it: diamonds and pearls went out fashion a while back. Now it’s all about the latest gadgets - iPods and smartphones, iConnect pillows and singing yoga mats. And who has the finger on the pulse of what is hot and what is not in the electronics world? The geek of course. Not only she will be hip and cool with her latest gadget, she’ll also be the envy of her girlfriends.

And that, my non-geeks friends, holds one of the biggest secrets to a relationship - make a woman look good, and she will go through a lot of trouble (like dumping her current boyfriend) to be with you.

9. Geeks will nurture the child within.

What man will not run screaming if she wants to play dress up, admire that doll in the window or suggests an outing to the latest amusement park? All these things are normal and accepted in a geek’s world.

10. Geeks are the new handymen - except that they’re good at what they do.

Geeks can upgrade, maintain, upload or fix anything that is plugged into a wall. You want your computer to be fast as the speed of light, want the best sound system, TiVo playing , want your tea kettle to whistle a tune while brewing your coffee? Ok that last one might be an exaggeration, but you get my drift. Anything technically related is something geeks can do and if it is not their area of expertise, they have friends who can handle it.

11. Geeks are trustworthy

Trust is a funny thing. If a guy is too loyal, he might be seen as clingy and just another burden. If the same guy plays around and can’t keep his toungue in his mouth (so to speak), it’s going to magnify a lot of other problems that a girl would usually compromise over.

But if you get it right - if a girl can be secure in her relationship while retaining her freedom, she’s going to be on the moon (and that means more fun for the geek).

If she fancies a night out with the girls, she knows that her geek can be left unattended without any worries. She knows that the geek is into her for more than just the sex, and is loyal to her (ok, thats what she thinks, but you can’t fault us geeks for playing that card, can you?).

Remove the source of a women’s insecurity and she becomes a much more fun person to be with - as geeks know.

12. Geeks are a refreshing and attractive change from the regular stock

They are caring. They are NOT desperate for sex. They love sports, but won’t lose sanity if their team loses. And not only do they make the effort to take her out to a nice place, they also take her to places that she’s probably never been (all that research and attention comes in handy).

In short, geeks are unlike the majority of the men the girl will know in her life - in fact, they’re probably much better than the guys she knows, at least according to how she rates guys.

If that’s not an advantage, I don’t know what is.

If you don't know it, you need to. Familiarize yourself with it, simply because it's the most liberating thing in the world.

For those of you who don't know, Post Secret was a project started by a Marylander named Frank several years back. Essentially all he did was leave notes around town with his address on it encouraging people to send anonymous postcards with their secrets on them. The response was enormous.
So enormous, in fact, that Frank currently has three book composed entirely of postcards, a weekly-updated website, as well as an audio website for those who don't have access to a mailbox.

And there are other who have taken to placing their secrets other places. For example, one common place to leave them is inside of the Post Secret books at book stores.
I tried this the other day, and it felt incredible to get some of the things I've been bottling up for years off of my chest.

I highly suggest this to all of you, as a way to both reach out to others, but also to reach into yourself.

It's official. I've caught Tell Me syndrome. What's Tell Me syndrome, you ask? Well, the Wonder Girls came out with a single several months back called Tell me. The song and the dance that goes along with hit has become a huge hit in South Korea, with people from all over learning it, dancing it in front of a video camera, and then posting the results on Youtube. And I, poor soul, am addicted.

Don't spray your Christmas tree with hairspray. It might keep your christmas tree nice and green, but once your tree is burnt to a crisp, it won't be nice and green anymore.

Don't worry about eggnog. So what? 10,000 calories in each sip? Meh, who cares!

If it's Christmas eve, and you're on a MMORPG trying to get all the special rare Christmas items, it's prolly time to get off...

Don't go around telling little kids Santa doesn't exist. Because it's obvious he does! Who else would be stupid enough to tresspass into your house and steal cookies year after year after year...

In order to get what you want, say candy from a baby, keep saying how Santa is watching him and the kid will do anything. It's a piece of cake!

When shopping, be aggressive. Who cares if it's an old granny holding a baby? You want that limited addition lead lightsaber, so just push her out of the way. If you have to, beat her until she stops moving. She'll forgive you. It's the season of love right?

Don't eat the mistletoe. There's a reason it's up so high.

Those cute little ribbon bow things on your presents aren't' meant to be put in your hair. It'll hurt when you take them out. A lot.

Sing super loud when you sing Jingle Bells. Dance around a bit too. In fact, go into a super market, commandeer the speakers, and sing to the whole store. Spread the love!

Don't kill your evil poodle as a main dish for Christmas dinner. No matter how tempting it is...

Don't kill your in-laws over Christmas. That means that many fewer presents next year!

Don't ask Santa for a deathnote. It doesn't matter if you promise him you'll only kill criminals, he still won't give it to you. Besides, he keeps his deathnotes for himself.

Christmas is not, I repeat, NOT just a holiday American made up to increase economics. Who ever told you that, is a Scrooge.

NEVER visit the North pole to visit Santa. Even if you happened to survive the bitter cold, wild animals, exiled elves, and rabid reindeer, you'll never find Santa's lair. It's underground.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with the popular site www.tv-links.co.uk. Well apparently, the owner of the site was arrested because TV-Links links to sites that host copyrighted content. Links not hosts. Apparently, the sites that do host the material [such as Google] have become so rich and powerful, that they are now above the law.
If linking to another site that hosts illegal content [and therefore, linking to a site that links to illegal content] is illegal, than essentially, the entire internet is illegal!

I'm asking you, please sign the petition to get TV-Links back up and running so I can go back to watching The Big Bang Theory and Cow and Chicken!

It's a vocabulary-based website. You give the correct definition of the word, and they give 10 grains of rice to someone in need. It's educational for you, and potentially life-saving for them. This thing proves how much of a nerd I am. I started doing it to help someone, but after a while, I noticed the vocabulary level, and now I'm hooked. I'm determined to try to get past level 48 [Approx. the highest anyone can make it without a dictionary] without cheating. I've only reached 38 so far. Bah, it's still higher than anyone else I know. Plus, it's more than 16,000 grains of rice.

So I'm standing in the middle of a roped-off section of the local park, the smell of cigarette smoke and beer heavy in the air, and I'm thinking to myself What the hell am I doing here? I can't answer myself. My face gets squashed into the porta-potty I'm standing next to as a group of drunk fifteen year olds trample me, trying to get a better spot. Just as I'm about to turn tail and leave, the lights dim, and I find myself surrounded in this envelope of music. Here I am, at the WZYP stage at the annual Big Spring Jam festival, watching Three Days Grace.

Okay, well I suppose I should start at the beginning. We actually arrived a litle less than halfway through Breaking Benjamin's performance. Ben kept asking everyone if we were doing okay, until he finally broke out a box of waterbottles, and just started hurling them at the crowd. Then they played a couple of songs. Then he talked about the release of Halo 3 [his IGN is "killemloud" If you find him, and beat him, you will officially be my new hero.] and how he gained about 3 pounds for each gamer point her earned, which led into Blow Me Away. He then got us to applaud for all the bands before them, and then for Three Days Grace. [Who was the headliner for the stage, and was to follow them.] They then started playing Animal I Have Become. Notice I said started. They finshed about fifteen seconds into the song, and just started laughing at how excited we all got. It was awesome and sad at the same time.

Well, then there's a period of about 20 minutes for set changes, and then BAM, Three Days Grace. Not surprisingly, they opened with Animal I Have Become, and the crowd went nuts. They played Get Out Alive and Never Too Late. Then they went into Riot, at which the whole front area turned into a mosh pit, complete with like...Four people crowd surfing at any one time. I've been neglecting this blog. How...Sad. Anyways, I've got another album for you guys to check out. Some of you may remember I posted about a band called A Brief Smile a while back. Well, they've got a new album coming out on October 2nd called "Now We All Have Horns." [You can listen to it here.] I asked the guys a few questions about the upcoming album:

Villains Are People Too: The cover art is rather unusual. Care to explain?
DL: Well. There is a horn in there if you look carefully. Our friend Miles Gilbert (milesgilbert.org) did the art for the record. He had recently done a flyer for us that was heavily inspired by Wurm, and we wanted to do something similar to the flyer for the cover of the record. It was fun to dig up all of those sweaters, now we have a great collection.

VAPT: Both the sound and the look of this album is quite different from R.E.S.T. What inspired this?
John: from "r.e.s.t." there was a kind of escape in the tracks that went more inward than outward and with "now we all have horns" we're really stretching out towards the environments we found ourselves in. hence the more natural looking, more nature oriented, more free aesthetic of the record as a whole. we're still striving for the whole grand without being grandiose thing but the message is somewhat more soothing now that we've matured...like a whole year.

VAPT: What's your favorite song off the album, and why?
Jared: Tairs In The Cloth; I like the way it flows from start to finish and the really contrasting sections. I think the recording of that one came out really well.
Louie: Electric Willows and Tairs In The Cloth came out well. Both of the songs have perfect moods. They feel great. I'd write
more but I don't want to reveal how much I like our music.
DL: At the moment, it is "Hold Tight, Electric Willows." It's always fun to play it live because it's got a different tuning and I really like how it came out on the record.
John: my favorite song off of the record might have to be 'electric willows'. it just a really powerful song that launches you like a crazed hyperdrive and then folds into a drowning fractal of your greatest fears.
Garrett: Probably The Sky Will Crack; I spent many hours trying to figure out how to work with the harmony of that song.

What I say: This song is mellow and nice; considerably calmer than what I normally listen to. It's a nice change of pace, and is definitely something to give a listen to.

And in other news, the Random Click Analysis is fantastic. My best score is 84. This pointless little time waster uses a computer's superior ability to decpher patterns. The less patternized the clicks, the higher the score. I'm either really random, or highly scientific. Both, perhaps?

1.) While geeks and nerds may be awkward, they’re well-meaning 9 out of 10 times. That smooth dude with the sly grin and the spider hands? Wonder what HIS intentions are... plus, I’ve never had a geek guy not call me when he said he would. Score major points THERE.

2.) They’re useful. In this tech-savvy world, it’s great to have a b/f who can make your laptop, desktop, and just about anything else that plugs into a wall behave itself.

3.) They’re more romantic than they’re given credit for. Ok true, their idea of romance might be to make up a spiffy web-page with all the reasons why they love you, with links to pics of you and sonnets and such... but hey. It lasts longer than flowers, plus you can show your friends.

4.) Due to their neglected status, there are plenty to choose from. You like ‘em tall and slender? There are plenty of geeks/nerds who are. You like ‘em smaller with more meat on their bones? Got that too.

5.) They’ve got brains. Come on now, how can intelligence be a bad thing?

6.) Most are quite good at remembering dates. Like birthdates and such, especially if they know it’ll make you happy. Due again to their neglected status, they’re more attentive than guys who “have more options”. Plus, with all that down time without a steady girlfriend, they’ll likely have mental lists of all the things they’d love to do once they GOT a girlfriend.

7.) Sex. Yep. Sex. I’m not really familiar with this myself, but I’ve friends who’ve been intimate with geek guys and it’s raves all around. They say a virgin wrote the Kama Sutra... all that time thinking about sex, imagining sex, dreaming about sex, (they are male after all) coupled with a desire to make you happy? Use your imagination.

8.) They’re relatively low-maintenance. Most can be fueled on pizza, Twinkies and Mt Dew. No complicated dinners needed here, so if you’re not the best cook, eh. Can you order a pizza?

9.) Most frequent bars as often as slugs frequent salt mines. You won’t have to worry much about your geek guy getting his “groove” on with club hotties because, frankly, he’ll be too busy rooting around under his computer wondering where that spare cable went. You won’t have to worry about him flirting with other women because, 9 out of 10 times, he’ll zip right by them in a perfect b-line towards the nearest electronics store. I’ve seen this happen.
Me: “Eww. Victoria Secret’s Models... They’re so skinny. How is that feminine? You can see her ribs!”
Geek Guy: “ooooooo...”
Me: “Hey!” *notices he is staring lustfully towards the computer store*
Geek Guy: “What?”
Me: “Never mind...”

10.) Although he may not want to go to every outing with you, you can arrange swaps, as in, you’ll go to his Gamer Con dressed as an elf princess if he’ll take you to the ballet. Plus, if he doesn’t want to go someplace with you, you won’t have to worry much about what he’s up to. You’ll probably come home to find him asleep on his keyboard in a sea of Mt. Dew cans with code blinking from the screen. It’s ok. He’s used to this. Just toss a blanket over him and turn out the light.

11.) His friends aren’t jerks. I can’t stress this enough. You’ll more likely get “Omg! A GIRL!! Can I see?!” than “Hey hot stuff back that ass up here and let me get some grub on...” They’re awkward geeks too and will, 9 times out of 10, treat you with the utmost respect and, more than likely, a note of awe. A cute girl picked one of their clan to date? It could happen to them! Hope! Drag some of your single girlfriends over, open up a pack of Mt. Dew, crack open the DnD set and get working. Nothing impresses geek guys more than a girl who can hack-n-slash (well ok maybe if she can code... a geek can dream).

12.) They’re rarely if ever possessive. They trust you, so you can be yourself around them. You like to walk around the house in a ratty t-shirt for comfort? He won’t care. He does too! They won’t get pissy if you don’t wear make-up or don’t want to bother primping your hair. If you gain a few pounds, they won’t try their best to make you feel like crap.

13.) They’re usually very well educated. Physics majors and the like. See #5. You won’t have to listen to him blathering on about his car (ok maybe a little), he’ll have loads of other interesting things to talk about. Politics, world events, how much the chicken burgers down at the local place rock, so long as you douse them in hot sauce...

14.) You’ll almost never have to hear, “Yaw dawg whazzap!!” plop out of their mouths. Unless it’s in jest. They spell properly, use correct punctuation, and are able to tell the difference between the toilet and the floor. They almost never get “wasted”, so you won’t have to worry about coming home to find him and his friends passed out on the floor amidst a pile of beer bottles. Mt. Dew cans, perhaps...

15.) And the final reason why geeks and nerds make great boyfriends: They actually give a damn about you. Not how you look (though that’s a plus), not how skinny you are, not how much make-up you primp yourself up with, but they like you for you. That kind of thing lasts longer than “DaMN baby you got a fine ass!!!” Believe me.

You've just been enlightened on how nerds make great dates. Aren't you happier? xD

I'm not so crazy about it (it's too pop for me, it makes me think Hannah Montana), but I'm still ecstatic. It's Skye news, which is what we're all looking for. There's speculation that it'll be the first single off of the new album, but to be honest, I really hope not. I'm personally much more fond of things like Into Action and Bring It Back. At least I have the comfort of knowing that Skye is an artist of good variety, and I'll probably be thrilled with the rest of the album.

I'm sick and tired of people confusing them. So read this and feel enlightened.

Dork: Anyone who is socially inept. Anyone who is unsure how to carry themselves in public. Dork are most often shy and/or wallflowers.

Nerd: Anyone who is passionate about learning/academics. Anyone who is constantly seeking to further their education, even outside of school. Grammar Nazis and history buffs can both be considered nerds. Nerds are often dorks, but not always.

Geek: Anyone who is extrememly passionate about anything other than learning/academics. Again, geeks are usually dorks, but there are exceptions. Geek obsessions can range from band, to Star Trek, to anime. Yes, anime, even if they do refer to themselves as "freaks."

Freak: Anyone who is seen as strange and/or unusual. Anyone who fits outside of the norm. Punks, goths, and emos are often categorized as "freaks," along with nerds and geeks.

So we went to see DCI Top 8 up in Tennessee last night. The shows were amazing, as expected...But the Cadets got ripped off. Here are the scores from last night.

How the placings should have been.

8. Dark Knights - Okay, they were one of my favorite shows of the night, but their performance simply wasn't as good as the others. So even though I think their show was entertaining, they definately have work to do in the technical aspects.

7. Carolina Crown - These guys have a great hornline. Period. But to be honest, their percussion stinks. That's really something they need to work on, 'cause if they had better percussion, they'd probably be top 3.

6. Santa Clara Vanguard - Andrew and I hadn't considered this placing (because they had previously been placing better than the Bluecoats), but after they announced it, we couldn't say we completely disagreed. Although there is a definate reason why their scores are so close. The two were both great.

5. Bluecoats - Okay, another I'm agreeing with. The Bluecoats had a fantastic show. Their theme ("Criminal") was very creative, and all parts of their show fit very well. The colour guard actually came out in orange jumpsuits and handcuffs, and he Bluecoats uniforms are naturally very cop-ish, so it was cool.

4. Blue Devils - That's right. They did not deserve to be first. I could settle for them being third, maybe, but not first. Everyone around us booed when they announced BD first (Okay...Maybe just me). Their show was neither memorable, nor classic Blue Devils. It was all kind of a strange blur.

3. Phantom Regiment - As much as I adore Phantom, I have to say they deserved third. I loved their music (as usual), and I think it was all tied together fairly nicely. These guys have a bit of cleaning to do, not to mention Andrew and I both said we didn't think the show in general was "first place material."

2. The Cavaliers - I admit. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to like their show, but I was proved wrong. So although this definately wasn't their best show, it definately wasn't their worst. The music was good for the most part, but some places didn't sound like music that belonged on a field. And I disliked their colour guard uniforms, even if they did match the show theme well.

1. The Cadets - That's right. We were pretty skeptical going in, especially since we had heard there would be narration, but it was phenomenal. We had all kind of expected something similar to the past two years show, but this was totally different. The drill was probably more difficult than the Cavvies drill, and the narration balanced - even completed - the music, as opposed to overpowered it. Plus the narration spoke to the band geek in all of us. It was more than a jock or a cheerleader could understand. We all had our jaws hanging open when it was through.

So I've somehow sucked myself back into the whole Korean obsession thing again. So I've hunted down a few Korean bands. And several korean videos...And I'm trying to teach myself to speak Korean again...And once again I'm proving how much I suck at this whole second language business. But whatever. Why: It's kind of old school Korean music mixed with modern alternative. I luff it.
Worst Song: Go Beach
Why: The beginning is odd, and the sound is just....Not my style.
Other Comments: I've only just ordered their 2nd album, and I can't find their first one ANYWHERE (if you have one you'd like to sell, you'd be my eternal best buddy...). Oh, check out Chocolate. I really like that one as well.

Band: Code Y
Best Song: Island
Why: The guitar in this is perfect. It's very deliberate, and is reminiscent of good metal music. I guess.
Worst Song: Motel Blue Moon
Why: The music is great, but the vocals ruin it, if you ask me.
Other Comments: This band has talent...But slow doesn't really work for them. It feels like it's dragging them down...

Well anyways, I downloaded this Blue Screen of Death screensaver, and set it as mine, and when my dad saw it, he freaked. "Ahhh! Blue screen of death!!! What did you do to your computerrr!" And my response? I went over and pressed a key, and bam. It went away. "Nooo. It's a screensaver I downloaded. Shweet, eh?" and then he stared at me like he always does. Heheh...

Speaking of my father giving me weird looks, I finally went out and got some new CDs. I got Queens of the Stone Age's "Era Vulgaris" and Modest Mouse's "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank". What does this have to do with my father? He hates my music, that's what. Didn't help that the first song he heard offa either album was "March Into Sea" by MM...Psychotic laughter is not a good way to impress an already skeptical father....But I did like both albums....I even got Sick, Sick, Sick as my ringtone. Heheh. That'll be fun to explain on the phone bill...

Best Song: Real Problems in SRQ
Why: I love the vocals in this song. The first 35 seconds or so were distinctive, and I like that.
Worst Song: Degree'd or Denounced
Why: His voice just doesn't fit the song, in my opinion.

Band: Stars Below
Best Song: Atrophy
Why: The overall sound is amazing. I honestly don't have any problems with this song. At all. It's a miracle.
Worst Song: Take Me Home
Why: The sound (especially the chorus) overall is just kind of cliche.

Why: The chorus,although repetitive, is addicting.
Worst Song: Count Me Out
Why: The slower sound just doesn't work for them.

Why: It's got an oldies feel to it, which I love. The chorus made me want to dance like a little girl. Which although that should never happen, I liked anyways.

Yea, so I've been reading a lot lately...So I thought I'd post a list of some books I thought you might like to check out. I've got 'em divided up into three categories: Addicting reads, Leisure reads, and the Somewhere in Betweens.
((Keep in mind that these are teen/young adult books.))

Addicting Reads
Mmkay...So these are the ones that you absolutely won't want to put down.
They're action packed, unpredictable, and absolutely fascinating. Please
remember I have an odd taste in books, and most of the books in this category
are fantasy of some type.

Blood and Chocolate - Annette Curtis Klause
Yes, this is the book that the movie was based off of. It's basically the story of a werewolf girl who falls in love with a human. After she gets in a fight with him, she soon learns that there have been mysterious murders happening amongst the werewolves. It's a clash between will and fate; love and hate; right and wrong. This one kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

City of Bones - Cassandra Clare
This one's really complicated. And also pretty long (475 pages), but that's just more to love. It's the first book in a new series (from what I understand, no others have been released yet). It's the story of a girl named Clary who witnesses a murder. But she then the body vanishes. The murderers vanish. How can you report a crime with no evidence? Especially if no one else is able to see the murderers! She learns that she has a special talent, and that ends up completely changing her life for forever.

Teach Me - R. A. Nelson
Okay, this one's really strange. And it's not even fantasy. It's about a girl who falls in love with her poetry teacher. But once she's rejected, she goes into creepy stalker mode and ends up endangering both herself and those around her. Awfully strange book, but it was oddly addicting.

Leisure Reads
Okay, so these aren't exactly addicting. But they've all got qualities that make them excellent reads. They're the type that you'd more likely read in small sections at a time, as opposed to the Addicting Reads, which you're more likely going to want to finish in as few sessions as possible. These books tend to be more realistic fiction/non-fiction.

The Silent Boy - Lois Lowry
Okay, so I really like this author. (You may have seen her on your Summer reading lists; she wrote Number the Stars and The Giver, as well as Gathering Blue.) This is a book about a girl who lives in the early 1900's who meets a mentally challenged boy who has a wonderful talent for communicating with animals. It's a fairly thought provoking book, although I do wish the book's ending made it feel more...complete, I suppose.

Gothic!
Mmkay. Ten original "dark" tales. They range from strange, to frightening. My personal favorite was the second one. The book was worth buying, although there were a few stories that made absolutely no sense to me...Some of them are the type of ghost stories you'd tell at a slumber party. A few of them were especially good at making you look over your shoulder to check to make sure no one's there...

Somewhere in Between
These are the type of books you're reluctant to put down, but not to the point where you become upset at the thought of having to come back to it later. Books in this category can consist of virtually any genre, but "Slightly stretched" fiction seems to be pretty common. ("Slightly stretched" meaning realistic enough to be real, but considering the circumstances...There's almost no way it could be.)

Being - Kevin Brooks
It's about a boy who discovers he's not quite the normal human he thought he was. He discovers something--Machinery, if you will-- inside of him. He learns there are people following him, and that he's not sure if he's really safe anymore. It's a good book, but the overall theme of it gets a bit repetitive after a while, and I disliked the ending. I felt like there needed to be more to it.

Born to Rock - Gordon Korman
This one's quite funny. The leader of the Young Republicans had known for a long time that his father wasn't his biological dad. But he never really stopped to consider who his real father may be. Then he discovers that his father is King Maggot--one of the founding fathers of punk rock, and quite possibly the single most destructive person to ever grace the stage. After he loses his scholarship to Harvard, he sets out to find his real father and convince him to pay for his tuition. Somehow, someway. This book was really good. It made me laugh in several places, and made me angry in others. Plus the end was quite heartwarming, which although it doesn't match the overall tone of the book at all, it still fit somehow.

JOIN THE LEAGUE OF APRIL FOOLS'

1. Sneak into a friend's home while he's away. Swap out his GeForce 8800 GTX with your own video card. Put the GeForce 8800 GTX in you PC. Play F.E.A.R. at a MILLION frams per second. If your buddy notices when he comes back, say "April Fools!"

2. Doctor screenshots of Strawberry Shortcake and her Berry Best Friends with extremely graphic pictures of naked women you found on the internet. So, as some of you may know, Skye did a song with Tim Armstrong called "Into Action". Some of you may have heard it already, but for those who haven't, you can download the mp3 here (right-click and select "Save Target As").
And she's even got it on her myspace.

And from what I've heard, Capitol Records has not dropped her. Skye has not confirmed anything, and besides, it would be stupid for them to drop her after all the work they've put in to her new album. Just cross your fingers and wait, I suppose!

Whooo! We're the state champs! (Boys, class 3A).
The game was intense. Everyone was on the edge of their seat the whole time (actually...we were standing the majority of the time...). Especially 3rd/4th quarter. A few people have told us that it was supposedly the pep band that brought the team out of their momentary slump (...is that why they call it a pep band?)...But I'll let you decide whether or not that's true...

BIRMINGHAM - Madison Academy overcame a 16-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat Lauderdale County 72-69 today and win a second consecutive Class 3A boys state championship at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

The Mustangs outscored Lauderdale County 20-9 in the fourth quarter. Madison Academy's Kerron Johnson was named tournament MVP.

It was actually pretty funny...On the way back, we stopped for lunch, and seeing a few maroon and white shirts walking in we thought Oh, the MA kids must be stopping here, too. Ha. Wrong. It was all Lauderdale County kids. And once they realized we were the band from MA? Well...Let's just say we didn't get any congrats from any of them. In fact...We were stared down by a few. But it was fun, either way.

Worth1000.com. It's a website that holds contests and such for Photoshoppers. They have tutorials and members who are willing to mentor newbs to photoshpping, as well. And as a bonus, they have things like photography contests for those who would rather leave their art as it is. And, if you just don't want to (or have the time to) photoshop, you can simply browse their seemingly endless galleries of olds contests and photos. Some good stuff there.

Bonnaroo is slowly approaching...Tickets went on sale this past Friday (so, if you haven't already bought yours, it's too late to get a chance at the golden ticket...sorry). The festival'll be June 14-17 and is going to be the best festival yet. Some of the bands that I'm looking forward to are:

iSketch. It's an online multiplayer game where you have to draw various things in order to try to get the other players to guess what it is. You get points for answering them correctly, and whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins. Amazingly fun & addictive, but depending on when you try to log in, the servers may be too full to let anyone in.

Yess! Some awesome albums are going to be released in April of '07, boys and girls!!! You want me to list a few? Fine. The two I'm most excited about are The Academy Is... and Skye Sweetnam, but a few others you may be interested in are: Hilary Duff, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez, Chevelle, Fountains of Wayne, Paul Wall, Mario and Brandi Carlile.

The Academy Is...'s album Santi sounds promising, just listening to their single (See below).
Hilary Duff's "With Love" is worth checking out. I'm personally not a big fan of her, though. But I do like it better than a lot of her other stuff (Again. See Below).
And Skye Sweetnam? Hrm. She doesn't seem to have a single yet...But I've got my fingers crossed. I'd hate it if her album got pushed back any further. There were rumors that it would be Boyhunter, and now they're saying it'll be Human. Oh well. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

Aha! I feel so incredibly accomplished. After our band director asked me to get a copy of our District music in mp3 so he could play it for the class, I nearly chewed my own head off in frustration. Do you know how hard it is to find a decent .RAM/.mp3 converter?! Well, I found one. So you're all going to sit down and listen to this f***in' piece of District music that gave me so much trouble (and, as a bonus, a free interview with AK in last weeks "the Splendid Table").

It's apparently been quite a productive day for me. I've finally figured out how to work Photoshop, and have been making graphics like crazy...

Have any of you guys been to Last.fm yet? It's a website that "scrobbles" (keeps track of) the songs you listen to and puts them on a little chart for you. It basically tells you exactly how obsessed with a certain band/song you are. It tracks songs from almost any music player (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.) and then tells you what artists you've listened to the most in the past week, and you overall top artists/songs. It then gives you a list of "neighbours", or people with similar tastes in music. It also has artist profiles and (some) song clips. It's pretty cool.

Anyywayyy...This whole week has been absolutely ridiculous for me. So...I've decided to make a list of songs to summarize it for you (because I know you'd rather have music than writing).

M.A.F.I.A. - An ally space. It's supposedly a network that's developed in the U.S. (Yes, I completely realize that it's says it's based in South Korea..), and is trying to "expand it's area of influence". The MAFIA is trying to move itself onto the web, but apparently news travels very slowly, because there are only a few members...I guess that's what happens when everyone tries to be all secretive about it. The space is apparently run by "The Boss". Who is he? I have no clue... Just thought I'd throw that out there. But whatever...

Anyways, I was looking for a book to read the other night, when I stumbled upon Alex Kapranos' new book "Sound Bites: Eating on Tour with Franz Ferdinand". Interested, I bought the book, not knowing what to expect. I actually found it quite funny (although some parts did make me go "Um...Okaaay...Too much info, AK..."). It was definately a good book. Just be warned, if you find any sort of interview in the internet with AK, or anything of the sort, realize they will almost definately mention his "adventure" in Argentina. Two words. Bull's testicles...Yea. Exactly.

Anyway, That's really all I have to say for today. But it does seem that this wave of depression might be here for a while. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?

Maybe it's just me, but everyone seems...depressed. It seems like the whole area has this cloud of depression hanging over it (both literally and figuratively). As much as I love winter, this is just. Not. Cool. The whole town seems to have gotten more melancholy. Including me.

But I've come to a conclusion. Depression must be 100% contangious. Seriously. Look up at the sky. Gray. Cold. (Was) Rainy. See? The town got so bad the sky became depressed, too. Now that makes me feel even more horrible (okay...not really. But it doesn't help, either). So I've figured that if I can post enough random junk that makes people happy, then that'll spread too. Oh please let it spread.

Okay, first off, for everyone who's sitting there listening to their playlist for the 100th time in a row (like me) and is starting to kinda want something new, you might want to check out Pandora. It's an internet radio station that takes the kind of music you listen to and compiles a list of similar music. You can rate the songs they give you, to help them further refine the search. 'Tis great.

For those of you who like a little humor with your music, you should definately head over to SongsToWearPantsTo.com. This guy is a genius. He takes your requests and turns them into songs (although not all of them make it. The only way to guarantee he'll make yours is to make a paid request). And because I am the wonderfully nice person I am, I've got a few of his songs up for download. Check 'em out.

Guitar Hero 2

So...I've decided to use today's post as an opportunity for a game review. The game? Guitar Hero 2 (For Playstation 2), of course.

Guitar Hero 2 has gotta be one of the best sequel games (for any console) out there. It's been tweaked majorly in some areas, and that is fine with me. For example, each player in multiplayer mode and select his/her own difficulty (So now I can thrash all my friends who are still stuck on easy while I'm playing on expert...). It also divides up the parts into bass/rhythm and lead guitar. This is 100x better than the original where you had to split up the part, so while one was playing, the other was out getting a drink (...Or something like that. Either way, there was plenty of time for boredom). You can both play simultaneously in either Vs. or Co-op mode.

The characters in GH2 have gotten a makeover, as well. The most noticable difference is in Pandora (who in the first had the long blue hair, dressed in all black, and scared the s*** out of more than a few people...), in GH2, she has gotten a new haircut (but she still has the blue hair), and has lost the all black outfit. In fact, her new outfit is a cream colored jacket/pants set. She looks quite...Glam/diva-ish?
All of the characters have changed at least a bit, though. And in fact, you can change them even more. If you go to the shop, you can buy alternate outfits for the characters (Think skins for your guitar). And I actually turned Judy Nail into a fairly normal nice looking girl (with some damn awesome shoes) into a girl who reminded me a good deal of the movie "School of Rock". Go figure.

The new venues look amazing (as expected). But I almost want to say I liked the venues better in the original GH. The only one that I though absolutely beat it's counterpart in the original was the first venue, Battle of the Bands. Maybe it's just that the rowdiness of the crowd and the dim lights of the gym seem all to familiar to me...But whatever, right?

So, overall, GH2 pretty much kicks GH's ass. Both good games (and I think I might like the song choices in GH a little bit better. But just a little bit. Not a whole lot.) completely blew me away, and I know I still be rawkin' on my little flippy GH guitar for a while. Good job, guys. Keep 'em coming.

15. Jackie Jackson - Franz Ferdinand

14. Beyond the Surface - Kutless
I love this song. It's really all I can say. Kutless has an amazing sound, plus they are a Christian band. Double points, for sure. Check out their myspace/website to see them in all their glory.

13. This Could Be - Mainstay
Although Mainstay isn't exactly topping the charts with their album "Well Meaning Fiction", it doesn't make this song any less amazing. You should definately check out their myspace/website.

12. Boyhunter (Simlish) - Skye Sweetnam
Okay, so I know that "Sound Soldier" isn't supposed to be released until later in the year, but this version of Skye's song "Boyhunter" is a riot. Having the awesome sound of Skye, but the sheer hilarity of the Simlish language, "Boyhunter (Simlish)" was an obvious choice for my list. Check out Skye's myspace/website (and her fanspace).

11. Miss Murder - AFI
The only band with a lead singer that can make someone go "What a stupid haircut..." and "I love his haircut!" at the same time. Miss Murder is one of those songs that you just couldn't avoid, whether it's because you love it, or all of your friends love it (I fall into the first category...). 10. Don't Lets Start - They Might Be Giants
Okay, Okay. I know technically "Don't Lets Start" isn't a song from '06, but it was on their newest album "Then: The Earlier Years", so I counted it eligible on my list. Check out their myspace/website for more of their undeniably catchy songs.

9. Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Amazing song. Amazing Video. Winning combination. "Chasing Cars"' lyrics and tone have a very peaceful feel to them. While your in that zen mood, do them a favor and check out their myspace/website.

8. White & Nerdy - "Weird Al" Yankovic
You knew it was coming. You can't have a best songs of '06 list without including "Weird Al"s "White & Nerdy". By far the funniest song (and quite possibly, the most well known) on the list, "White & Nerdy" is only sitting so low on the list because it was over played. Stop by Al's myspace/website while your flipping through that comic collection, too!

7. Activate - Stellar Kart
Stellar Kart's sophmore album "We Can't Stand Sitting Down" absolutely blew me away. Other great songs from their album are "Me and Jesus" and "Procrastinating". Check out their myspace/website.

6. Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace
Three Days Grace's "Animal I Have Become" has an awesome dark and frustrated sound to it. Definately worthy of your air guitar. Check out their myspace/website.

5. High School Never Ends - Bowling for Soup
Accurate. Catchy. Great Music video. Sounds good to me. The song (for some reason...) reminds me of their song "1985". Don't ask me why, but I love 'em both anyway. Check out their myspace/website.

4. Fidelity - Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor proved she's a song writing genius with this one. I loved her use of the piano in this one, and her voice is absolutely perfect for this song. Check out her myspace/website, you know you want to.

3. When You Were Young - The Killers
Another popular song on the list (surprise, surprise). "When You Were Young" has been all over the place since it's release. It's sheer popularity is enough to put it on the list, but the song itself brought it up to #3.
